Motivational messages for Lent

Lent is fast approaching and you may have friends and family who are planning to celebrate this Christian festival by giving up certain foods and things that they enjoy, such as wine, chocolate, cake, and other luxuries for six weeks.

If you want to show them how proud you are of them and that they have your love and support, you can send a Lent card with a message from the heart that tells them you have their back and will be there for them during their journey of faith.

If you want to send a card but are unsure what to write and need some inspiration, check out our handy guide below. You’ll find a message that will hit just the right note.

What is Lent?

Lent, an annual Christian tradition, is a period covering 40 days (about six weeks). This year, it starts on Ash Wednesday (22 February) and ends just before Easter (6 April). It honors the time when Jesus went into the desert to fast and pray before beginning God’s work.

During Lent, many Christians give up certain foods and luxuries such as alcohol, chocolate, cake, and fast food, to remember and pray tribute to Jesus’ sacrifice, as well as to test their self-discipline and strength of character.

Why send a card to celebrate Lent?

Lent isn’t just a chance to give up junk food and lose a few pounds. For many committed Christians, it’s an opportunity to show commitment to their faith and solidarity with the Bible’s teachings.

And, when it means so much to the friends and family members who observe this festival, why not show your support for their sacrifice and dedication? TouchNote has a range of everyday kindness and good luck designs to accompany your supportive and loving messages.

1. Send them something sweet

Heartfelt messages are a surefire way to make your support known and express your pride in their commitment to Lent and their journey of faith.

“Sending a little ray of sunshine to you during lent – you are in my thoughts and heart and I am proud to be your friend.”

“Wishing on every star in the sky that you complete your Lent journey of faith – God bless you.”

“You constantly astound me with your strength and dedication, and you have my unending support in everything you’re doing. Hugs, kisses, and hoorays for you.”

2. Pump up the empowerment

When people give up the things they enjoy or love to test their self-discipline, it can be very challenging, especially as the days go by. Some words of encouragement can be very empowering and act as a real boost during those faltering moments. Let them know you believe in them, that they can do anything, and that in any moment of weakness, they can always turn to their God and yourself.

“Stay strong and don’t give up – you are amazing and have got this. You’re not in this alone. I am always there for you – let’s do this together.”

“I believe in you, my friend, and I know you can do this. You’re a star and can do anything you put your mind to – good luck and hang tough, buddy.”

“Hope you’re doing awesome during Lent. I am so proud of you and am sending you good thoughts and prayers to give you strength.”

They may also appreciate an empowering quote:

“Unless there is Good Friday in your life, there can be no Easter Sunday.” Fulton Sheen

“There’s something about it that makes sense, Lent. You give something up, and everything’s more joyful.” Elaine Stritch

3. Make ’em laugh

A little humor can go a long way to lighten any situation, so when you know that your friends’ cravings are kicking in or their new routines are starting to falter, give them a Lent card that raises a giggle to help them to reset, recalibrate, and continue their Lent journey.

“Giving up chocolate and wine is going to make you a better person. Plus, you’ll get into your skinniest jeans and look fabulous – don’t give up!”

“Don’t worry if you can’t decide what to give up – just think of one of those New Year’s resolutions you failed and try again.”

“No pizza for 40 days? No problem, just eat more burgers and fries It’s a win!”

4. Keeping it simple

You may have friends in church or your congregation who you are not so close to, but you’d still like them to know you’re rooting for them. A plain and simple message of good luck and support will mean the world to them.

“Good luck on your spiritual journey this spring. May God give you strength and help you succeed.”

“You have my friendship and support at this time of Lent – don’t hesitate to give me a call if you need a helping hand.”

“Many blessings and good wishes to you this Lent. Keep smiling and stand firm.”

5. Stir their souls

Who can encourage Lent followers better than the Lord himself? Why not use some of the most powerful and inspirational Bible passages for them to read and refer to during the times they may struggle.

“But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.” Micah 7:7

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12

“But you must return to your God; maintain love and justice, and wait for your God always.” Hosea 12:6

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33

“God never tires of forgiving us; we are the ones who tire of seeking his mercy.” Pope Francis

Lent is a true sacrifice, requiring a strong commitment and self-discipline to give up the things that you enjoy. Show your friends and family who are going on this 40-day spiritual journey of faith how proud you are of them by sending a Lent card with a strong message of support, love, and blessings that will keep them going even in the tough times.
