It happens to everyone… life gets busy and as a result, our friendships suffer. All it takes is for an old memory to pop into your mind and suddenly you realize you have drifted away from people you used to be so close with. You start to wonder where they are, how they are doing, and what the best way might be to reconnect with them.
It can be a bit nerve-wracking to reach out to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. A great way to spark the conversation is by sending a card that lets them know you’re thinking of them.
Read our guide below for some brilliant hints and tips on how to get started.
Reach out and lift their spirits
Don’t underestimate the power of reaching out to other people. Reconnecting with friends and loved ones not only boosts their well-being. It also positively impacts your mental health too.
An unexpected card in the mailbox from someone that we haven’t heard from in months (or even years) really does give us the “warm and fuzzies”. And although a text, Facebook post, or DM is quick and easy, these lack that personal touch. A cute card with some heartfelt words will get their attention and touch their heart.
You are in my thoughts
You may have heard through the grapevine that a friend you haven’t seen in a while is not doing well and needs a bit of support. Why not take this as an opportunity to try and get back in touch?
A quick check-in card lets someone know you’re thinking of them. It can encourage them to open up if they need to share their worries, thoughts or if they just fancy a chat.
“Hiya, how are you doing? Just to let you know you are in my thoughts – I’d love to chat, so give me a call.”
”This card reminded me of the two of us. It’s been a while since we were in touch and I hope everything is OK with you.”
“It’s been too long! I was wondering how things are with you. How would you feel about catching up sometime?”
“I have heard that you are going through a tough time and I"m so sorry we lost touch. I have missed you and would love it if we could meet up.”
Life happens and we get busy, even distracted sometimes. Different career paths, family pressures, chaotic schedules, and other life changes can make it difficult to keep in touch with all the people in your life.
Let a friend or loved one know you’re missing them with a thinking of you or missing you card. You can add meaningful messages, telling them you’re still here if and when they ever need you. Every time they read it, they’ll feel buoyed up by your warm words.
“A little card to remind you that I have missed you lots and hope we can meet up this year – I owe you a big hug!”
“Checking in to ask how life is in your little corner of the world? It’s been so long since we’ve seen each other and I’d love to see you.”
“You’ve been on my mind lately – how is everything? I’m always here for you, let’s talk soon.”
“You may be far away but you will be my best friend forever. You are in my thoughts and prayers every day.”
Finding old friends
It can be unnerving to reach out to an old friend after a long period of no contact. But, it’s definitely worth the effort if you want them back in your life.
Send them a let’s reconnect card, asking them how they are. You can give them a mini-update from your side too. Tell them how grateful you are for the time you spent with each other and that you’d like to catch up and talk about the old times and new.
“I just found this old photo of us and it made me smile to remember how much fun we had then. What are you up to these days?”
“Our lives are busy right now but I want you to know I"m thinking of you and hope that we can hang out very soon.”
“Hi there! We have drifted apart recently and I know I haven’t been in touch as much as I should have – let’s get together soon and swap news.”
“Hello old friend, is life treating you well? We must meet soon and reminisce about all the good times we had.”
Show them how much they mean to you
Moving house, work or new life responsibilities may have put some distance between you and your friend. But, that doesn’t mean you don’t think about them.
No matter the distance, it’s important to cherish the people who mean the most to you. Some warm words of appreciation will show them they are still in your thoughts.
“You were always there for me, through the tough times and the good. I think of you often!”
“Thanks for all the love and support over the years. I wouldn’t have survived my twenties and thirties without you. Catch up soon?”
Losing touch with loved ones and friends happens to the best of us. Don’t let the fact that you have drifted apart prevent you from getting in touch again. A reach out card with a warm message will go a long way in rekindling those special relationships.
