Meet our artists

Meet the artists: Christmas edition!

It's the most wonderful time of the year, and our talented artists are here to share their holiday tales! Join us as we unwrap the unique Christmas traditions, humorous memories, and artistic joys of Yvonne Zorn, Kay Train, and Britsy Lal.

Yvonne Zorn

1. Who is number 1 on your Christmas card list?

My Grandparents are the first to come to mind. They have all made so many sacrifices for me and I’m incredibly grateful for them! About three years ago my husband and I moved from Vermont to Tennessee. My grandparents are still in Vermont so I don’t get to see them as often as I used to and I miss them dearly. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to repay them for all their love, care, and kindness throughout my life but, a Christmas card is a good start!

2. What's a weird but wonderful Christmas family tradition?

My mom and I used to love to find our perfect little “Charlie Brown” Christmas tree every year. We would seek out a short, fat and goofy looking tree for our home. Not only that but we also had an enormous amount of ornaments, lights, garland and tinsel to add to our goofy little tree.  We had no rhyme or reason to decorating the tree, sometimes literally throwing stuff just to see where it would land! Once we were done we had the most packed silly little tree and we LOVED it. It looked absolutely ridiculous and we thought it was so amazing! I lost my mom about 5 years ago but I still like to decorate my tree chaotically every year in memory of her. The crazier the better!

3. What's your favourite thing about being an artist?

I love the variety of things you can make with your hands. It's amazing what we are capable of if we just put our minds to it! I like to say that my “toxic trait” is walking through the store and not buying something because I think, “ I could make that, why would I buy it! “ It’s so fun to create, whether it's painting a portrait, Illustrating greeting cards or even building a shelf! I love to dress up my home with my creations and be inspired by artists all around the world who do the same!

4. What is the worst Christmas present you've ever received?

You know maybe I’ve been a little spoiled because I honestly can’t think of a horrible Christmas present that I’ve gotten! I’m not sure if I should say I’ve been incredibly blessed or I was just a stereotypical spoiled only child….

5. Tell us your funniest Christmas cracker joke!

I couldn’t decide between the two of these, they both cracked me up…

  • A gingerbread man went to the doctor’s complaining of a sore knee. “A sore knee?” the doctor said. “Have you tried icing it?”

  • I have this incredible ability to predict what’s inside a wrapped present. It’s a gift…

Kay Train

1. Who is number 1 on your Christmas card list?

My cat

2. What's a weird but wonderful Christmas family tradition?

I live in Brighton, UK, which is right by the sea. My family and I always go to watch the Christmas swimmers. Which is basically loads of people swimming in the freezing cold English channel on Christmas morning. I haven't been brave enough to try it yet, maybe this year!

3. What's your favourite thing about being an artist?

I get to do something I love every single day! I love everything about it, I love the freedom and joy it brings me. Another thing I love is the process, I love how it starts with an idea that pops into my head and the process to the final finished piece. I also get to meet a lot of fun people along the way.

4. What is the worst Christmas present you've ever received?

My mum once gave me a pair of washing up gloves, not really sure why! They were even wrapped up all nicely!

5. Tell us your funniest Christmas cracker joke!

How do Christmas trees get their email? They log-on.

Britsy Lal

1. Who is number 1 on your Christmas card list?

My Nan and Grandad

2. What's a weird but wonderful Christmas family tradition?

Not very weird, but we love a Christmas Eve box with pjs and goodies and watching a Christmas film as a family. Then of course leaving a mince pie for Santa

3. What's your favourite thing about being an artist?

I love being creative and exploring new avenues. Looking back to see how far I’ve come gives me a great sense of achievement and there’s always room for improvement, it’s a journey!

4. What is the worst Christmas present you've ever received?

A phone sock!

5. Tell us your funniest Christmas cracker joke!

What do you call a reindeer who can't see? No-eye deer.

As we conclude these Christmas Chronicles, may the stories of Yvonne, Kay, and Britsy add a sprinkle of inspiration and warmth to your holiday celebrations. May your days be merry, your hearts be light, and your Christmas be filled with love and laughter.
