How to reach out this World Mental Health Day

When it comes to mental health, we all get a little tongue-tied, so much so that sometimes, it feels easier not to say anything at all. But with the shocking statistic that 1 in 4 people are expected to experience mental health issues within their lives, it can be empowering to know how to support your family and friends.

We believe the power of connection can’t be underestimated; in fact, the simple act of reaching out can make be a first step to providing mental health support. Within the TouchNote community, we discovered over 90% of our users found that looking at photos of family and friends positively impacted their mental health.

So here is a little inspiration about how you can show your care with TouchNote this World Mental Health Day.

Share happy memories

Not every day can be full of sunshine and joy, but the amazing times you’ve had together can bring a much-needed smile to gloomy times. Pair this with an anecdote about the day and let them know how much you enjoyed it.

Make plans for the future

Something to look forward to can be a treasured gift to someone struggling. It doesn’t have to be anything grand, it could be something as simple as an invite to a low key coffee date, movie night or a FaceTime call.

Send a funny joke

Whether it’s an inside joke nobody else will understand, or a silly knock knock, a good giggle can be just what the doctor ordered.

Remind them who they are

Ever wished your loved ones could see themselves how you see them? A little reminder could be a good start. Tell them how much you value their thoughtfulness, how much they make you laugh or how grateful you are that they exist.

Send a positive quote

Sometimes the best words to use are someone elses. A quick google of ‘positive mental health quotes’ will bring up a huge range of empowering, heartwarming quotes that serve as great reminders in times of need.

Let them know you’re there

It might feel a little cliché, but it never hurts to let someone know you’re on their team. Send an everyday kindness design that says “I got you”.

Jack’s Story

We couldn’t be more proud to celebrate a remarkable act of kindness that’s even closer to home. Well done to Jack, our senior designer at TouchNote, who recently went the extra 26.2 miles for Mind mental health charity in the London Marathon.
