What to write

What to write in a bridesmaid thank you card

You’ve had a fabulous wedding and wonderful honeymoon and now it’s time to write thank you cards to those amazing girls who helped you along the way – your awesome bridesmaids. Let them know how grateful you are for their support, not only on the wedding day, but during the whole run up to the big event.

You’ll want your message to express just how thankful you are that they were around you through the exciting times, and on those stressful days when nothing seemed to be going right. As well as letting them know how fantastic they all looked on the day. Don’t hold back – you can speak from the heart and say something sentimental, or go for quirky or lighthearted and humorous. Whatever feels right to you.

Still not sure what to write? Get started by reading our handy guide which shows you all you need to know about writing your bridesmaids’ thank you cards.

What exactly is a bridesmaid?

Typically, bridesmaids are family members or the bride’s closest friends. They will attend to the bride on her wedding day – standing with her as she marries her bridegroom. They are often the unsung heroes of any wedding – playing important and significant roles throughout the engagement and wedding planning period and providing emotional as well as practical support. Brides may also decide to choose a chief bridesmaid – a matron or maid of honor – who will be in charge of organizing the others.

Bridesmaid’s practical tasks typically include planning and paying for a bridal shower; organizing a bachelorette party; keeping a list of gifts that have been sent; helping the bride get ready on the day itself; decorating the wedding and/or reception venue; and basically running any other errands that the bride may need to be done. The emotional support they provide is just as important – celebrating the engagement with the bride and keeping the joy and fun going through all the planning stages, as well as drying her tears and supporting her through the more stressful times.

Fun fact: Bridesmaids can be traced back as far as Ancient Roman times when they stood next to the bride as witnesses to the marriage. They dressed in similar color costumes as the bride so that evil spirits would be confused if they tried to attack the newlyweds.

Why send bridesmaids’ thank you cards?

As the bride, you will know how important it was to have the bridesmaids at your wedding and how they totally helped make this day the happiest and best experience of your life. So send a personalized thank you card to each of them and let them know how much it meant to you that they were there, standing right beside you.

A thank you card is the most thoughtful way to express your gratitude for their time, effort and financial contributions to your wedding day. But mostly, it lets them know how much you value their ongoing friendship. You could also add a small gift to make your thank you extra special and make your bridesmaid smile. Some great options include a bottle of bubbly, some flowers or something luxurious to pamper themselves with.

Write something from the heart

If you’re searching for something heartfelt and a bit more sentimental to write in your message, be bold and release your inner romantic. Emphasize how much their presence meant to you and how crucial they were in making the big day run smoothly. Feel free to get a little bit mushy about how this has strengthened your friendship and that you can’t wait to repay the favor (if they’re not married yet, of course).

Include something like:

“I am so, so happy that you agreed to be my bridesmaid and I want you to know that having you at my wedding blessed my day, making it more perfect than I could ever have hoped. I appreciate everything that you have done for me and thank you for helping me make my dreams come true.”

“You were the most wonderful and perfect bridesmaid and friend any bride could have hoped for. Thank you so much for being part of my wedding and helping make it such a special day for me and (name of groom).”

“Thank you so much for being my matron of honor; I will never forget your amazing friendship and support on my journey to the altar. You were the most perfect matron of honor that any bride could have had and I truly don’t know what I would have done without you.”

Write something funny and make your bridesmaids giggle

If you’d like your bridesmaids’ thank you cards to be more lighthearted and quirky, you can easily add a little humor. Let’s face it, there were probably more than one or two funny moments in the lead up to your wedding day. You might want to recall moments from the planning stages or the big day itself. Be honest now, were you a bit of a bridezilla at times? Feel free to let them know that the laughs made the blood, sweat and tears much easier to work through.

Here are some ideas:

“You absolutely killed being my bridesmaid and you looked amazing – not as amazing as me, naturally, but pretty good all the same!”

“Thank you for putting up with all my bridezilla nonsense, for deleting that bachelorette video and for wearing a really ugly dress without making too much fuss! I promise that I’ll make it up to you forever!!!!”

Fun quote: “You think your friends have good taste in fashion, until they ask you to wear an ugly bridesmaid dress!” Wendi McLendon-Covey, actor and comedian

Write something generic in your card

Not all bridesmaids are best friends and some may be family members, such as a sister-in-law or a cousin you’re not that close to. However, it’s still important to send a thank you card to show how grateful you are for the time and effort they put into your big day.

For a more generic message, you could include:

“Thank you for being my bridesmaid and helping make my day super special. It meant so much to both of us.”

“Just a quick note to say thank you for being part of our wedding and for all the time and effort you put into celebrating our day. It was really appreciated.”

“Thank you for agreeing to be a bridesmaid at our wedding – we are both thankful for all your support and help on our special day.”

Don’t forget to add a photo to your thank you card

Now you have the perfect message to include in your bridesmaids’ thank you cards, make it even more personal and special by including a photo or two of both of you on your big day. It’s the perfect way to make this thank you card one of a kind.

Bridesmaids’ cards to treasure forever

Sending your bridesmaids a thank you card for being so incredible before and during your wedding is the ideal way to make sure they know how wonderful and valued they are. And how much you appreciated the love, support and friendship that helped make your wedding day the best that you could have dreamed of.
